Prevention Education
Communities CAN prevent child abuse and neglect, that starts with the right tools
CARES Northwest offers trainings to community groups, schools, organizations, and businesses. We focus on violence prevention - helping adults create safe environments for youth and empowering youth to have healthy relationships with others. We also train professionals in child maltreatment, trauma, mandatory reporting, problematic sexual behavior, and more.

CARES Northwest can provide trainings to a variety of groups within a school including administration, teachers, counselors and social workers, school staff, parents and caregivers, and students. Our trainings are research-based and evidence-informed and focus on prevention: how can we create schools and educational environments that prevent interpersonal violence and child maltreatment from occurring before it starts?
In addition, CARES Northwest offers a comprehensive violence prevention curriculum for students grades 6-8; “Building Foundations for Healthy Relationships (BFFHR).”
The curriculum is evidence-informed and meets the requirements of Oregon’s Erin’s Law as well as many of the Oregon Department of Education’s teaching standards for violence prevention. BFFHR provides four lessons in each grade for a total of 12 lessons. Lessons are interactive and build on one another to provide youth a foundation on healthy relationships, healthy development, and safe environments.
